Today marks 4 incredible years since I took the leap into the world of mortgages — a world that was entirely new to me.

For those who don’t know my story:

I didn’t come from a financial background. I had no customer service experience. I started while raising two little ones — just 2 and 4 years old — during the height of the COVID pandemic. I was laid off from my long-term job shortly after returning from maternity leave, a role I once believed to be “secure.” I had always wanted to leave the 9–5 life, but the comfort of a steady paycheck held me back.

Looking back, getting laid off was one of the best things that ever happened to me. It forced me to face the reality I had been avoiding — and to chase the dream I always had.

I even joined another full-time job soon after, while also being a full-time mom and juggling a part-time web design business. I still remember being rejected by a local mortgage franchise — I was told I had “too much on my plate.” And yes — I did. But I also had something they didn’t see: grit, vision, and a will to succeed.

Eventually, I made a bold decision: I quit that new full-time job and gave mortgages my all. It wasn’t easy. Balancing life, parenting, and learning a brand-new industry was a mountain to climb.

But what kept me going was:

My engineering background — which still helps me navigate complex mortgage files

My marketing experience — my biggest strength when I had no book of business

My passion to learn, relentless work ethic, and belief that honesty always comes first

I never chased quick money. I focused on building trust and delivering results — and it paid off.

To this day, I’m incredibly thankful to Peter Paley, Derek Vandall and Colten Boudreau the team at Dominion Lending Centres Mainstream Mortgages for believing in me when I was just starting out. You gave me the opportunity I was waiting for — and I ran with it.
